Collector’s Alert! Any avid collector of vintage radios knows the manufacturer Zenith. Electronics innovator and creator of the first remote control for the TV, Zenith Radio Corp. was established in 1919, as a small manufacturer of radio equipment.

The brand name “Z-Nith” was borne out of the call letters of their small Chicago radio station, 9ZN. The company pioneered the manufacture of portable radios in 1924, and later receivers and larger radios, such as this Vintage D424W Zenith Radio, nick-named “The Metropolitan,” no doubt from its sleek minimalist design with “Circle of Sound” speaker technology.

The "Circle of Sound" design uses an upward-facing speaker and an inverted cone deflector to disperse sound in a 360-degree circle. This solid-state AM/FM table radio features a black plastic top and faux walnut plastic sides. It sounds fantastic…clear on most stations and nice and loud. Lights up! However, I broke the Tone knob off of it. Knob included. My price reflects this.
